Adem Kastrati

Kastrati, was born in 1933 in the village of Karačevo in the upper part of Kamenica in Kosovo. He belonged to the first generation of painters after the Second World War, where his name occupies a meritorious place among the figurative artists who lived and created in the time of Yugoslavia. He lived and worked in North Macedonia leaving behind important works.

In the works of Adem Kastrati, social themes with ethno-folkloric elements of rural environments dominate. Everyday life is constantly presented through the interweaving of nature and the figure of the common man, described by socio-anthropological lyricism under the Albanian rural sky. In the epicenter of the compositions of this cycle, the author fixes the figuration, in particular the human figure, which possesses a social and psychic identity with characteristics of the Kosovar-Albanian environments.

Initially, Kastrati painted in the technique of oil colors, but later, with great dedication, he also began painting with earth colors, for which the technique is also known. Some of his most popular works are: Magja (1989), Dasmorët (1989), Darka (1977).
